Why Are Pets Important To Us?
In this unit, the students will explore pets. They will sort animals that make good pets and they will identify features of animals that make them suitable pets. The students will list the physical features of some pets and will compare the physical characteristics between different breeds of pets. They will create simple column graphs and explore who has a pet and where it came from. They will also write at least two descriptions of a pet, a procedure on how to wash a dog, and a report about what a vet does. A visit to a pet shop will help the students design and make a class pet shop and also an enclosure for a pet of their choice. Guest speakers will be invited in to talk to the students about what pets need and how to care for pets. The students will also become familiar with how to behave safely around pets.
