Speak to usThis unit allows the students to explore, experiment and play a variety of percussion scores, including pictorial, graphic, colour coded and notated. It covers the content of duration, dynamics, pitch, tone colour and structure. It encourages the students to manipulate musical concepts and become composers. The students will create patterns of beats and record these pictorially. They will be introduced to the rest symbol, and they will use this to compose their own simple musical score using percussion instruments. The students will jointly create a graphic score. They will then move into groups to create their own graphic score which they will perform for the class. They will explore formal notation (eg: crotchet, minum and quaver) and they will use these to create a simple notated score. Finally the students will be introduced to the way in which musicians use a repeat symbol to indicate a phrase to be repeated.
