Speak to usIn this unit of work, the students will explore the ways in which our senses provide us with information about our environment. The students will identify the parts of the body related to the senses and will match “sensing” words to these body parts. The students will be involved in tasks at work stations where they use a particular sense to find out specific information. They will then use all their senses to find out about the process of making popcorn. The students will discuss how people’s senses may differ and will conduct a test to show that people differ in their ability to hear. They will listen to a guest speaker talk about hearing aids as a device which enables people with a hearing loss to improve their ability to hear. The students will then create a poster showing different devices that can be used to help our senses provide us with information about our environment. The students will use their senses to investigate their school environment and will record their findings in the form of a map. Finally the students will be involved in designing and making a senses box to investigate likes and dislikes.
