Speak to usIn this unit, the students will investigate the need for shelter. The students will create an illustration of a shelter and use these to help create a definition of the term. They will describe how plants, animals and humans all need a shelter and will choose an animal and investigate what it uses as a shelter. The students will then identify, graph and map the different types of shelter found in the local community. They will then create a labelled diagram of their home showing how it acts as a shelter. The students will investigate some of the different types of houses found around the world and will then design and make a shelter suited to a particular environment. Finally the students will discuss how we alter the environment to create our shelters and will work in groups to identify ways that we can keep this to a minimum.
