This unit of work is based on Ted Hughes’ book, “The Iron Man”. The students will have the book read to them during shared reading. The tasks in all content strands will relate to the text. The students will jointly construct and then independently construct a written procedure, narrative and recount. The reading tasks are aimed at developing the students’ reading skills, and deepening their understanding of the text, by examining specific events and settings and characters. The students will engage in talking and listening tasks, which will develop their listening skills and their understanding of oral narratives, recounts and descriptions.
