Speak to usThis unit has been designed to help develop the students’ understanding of the Gold Rush Era. The students will identify where gold was found in Australia and they will discuss the effect that this had on patterns of immigration and settlement. They will be involved in researching life on the Gold fields. They will research the different methods of mining gold, and they will design a model, which shows one of the ways this was done. The students will then examine the events that led to the Eureka Stockade and will record these events in the form of a newspaper report. The students will also discuss how Australian democracy was developed during this time. Finally, the students will examine the effects that gold mining had on the environment.
