The Adventures of Rowan of Rin: Emily Rodda
This unit of work is based on the series of books by Emily Rodda, “Rowan of Rin” and “Rowan and the Travellers”. The students will have the books read to them during shared reading. The students will also be encouraged to read the other texts in the series, “Rowan and the Keeper of the Crystal” or “Rowan and the Zebac”. The tasks in all content strands will relate to the texts. The students will jointly construct and then independently construct a written description, narrative, procedure, and review. The reading tasks are aimed at developing the students’ reading skills, and deepening their understanding of the text, by examining specific events and settings and characters. The students will engage in talking and listening tasks, which will develop their listening skills and their understanding of oral recounts and discussions.
