In this unit, the students will investigate the structure of responses and explanations through a study on spiders. They will express a personal opinion, investigate explanatory information and plan and deliver oral presentations. The students will read and view a number of factual / non-factual texts including DVDs, poems, songs, TV programs and internet sites about spiders. They will investigate the life cycle of a spider and they will complete tasks aimed at developing their reading skills and strategies, and knowledge of text structures and features. They will be involved in the joint construction of the text types and will develop their skills in writing these text types independently and editing their own writing. They will write blurbs, advertisements, flow charts, slideshows and responses to a variety of texts.
