Speak to usThis unit is based on the book “Sarindi and the Lucky Bird” written by Janine Fraser and illustrated by Kim Gamble. In this mini unit, the students will complete reading tasks such as responding to the text, locating information about the types of games played in Indonesia and creating illustrations showing the difference between living conditions in Indonesia and where they live. The students will also create a poster advertising Sarindi’s father’s new business. The students will explore the structure of a procedure. They will label the parts of a procedure and will contribute to the joint construction of a procedure instructing how to play a game. The students will write their own procedure explaining how to play a game played in Indonesia. In the talking and listening component of the unit the students will participate in a discussion, a Hot seat activity and they will listen to and follow other children’s procedures completed in the writing sessions.
