We have highlighted below the basis on which the PP+ comprehensive
programs have been developed. A explanation of what you can expect
from the programs, appear under the following headings:
We aim to consistently provide quality programs. Each program follows
a similar format to enable ease of understanding and implementation.
BASIS OF PROGRAMS DEVELOPMENT
The programs on this site are based on the New South Wales Board
of Studies Curriculum Documents. They have been developed by experienced
teachers and have been successfully implemented within the classroom.
The programs have been organized to align with the Board Of Studies
stages of development:
|
• Early Stage One
|
Kindergarten
|
|
• Stage One
|
Years 1-2
|
|
• Stage Two
|
Years 3-4
|
|
• Stage Three
|
Years 5-6
|
Within each stage, programs are organized into the Key Learning
Areas of:
• English
• Mathematics
• Science & Technology(S&T)
• Human Society and its Environment(HSIE)
• Personal Development, Health and PE (P.D., Health & P.E.)
• Creative and Practical Arts
Where possible, these have been further divided into content strands.
The programs have been written in Microsoft Word format, so that
you are able to modify them to suit the needs of the students that
you teach. If you have any problems with formatting, please contact
us.
PROGRAM CONTENT
Provide below is a explanation of the content of the programs
for your information:
The Front Page
The stage stated on the front page refers to the stage for which
the program has been written.
A section on the program has been allocated for class and term.
These areas are for you to fill in when you receive the program.
Duration
Every program has a suggested duration. The programs included have
been based on a standard term of ten weeks.
Content Strand
The programs have been developed to provide the students with experiences
in the content strands outlined by the Board of Studies for each
Key Learning Area. These are identified in the box titled "Content
Strand". Each Mathematics program has additional boxes, which
identify the relevant strand and sub strand.
Unit Description
The unit description provides a brief overview of the teaching learning
experiences within the unit.
Outcomes
The learning experiences within the programs have been developed
to assist the students achieve specific outcomes. These outcomes
are listed on the front page of the program. These outcomes will
be revisited in other programs. This will ensure that the students
have opportunities to experience tasks related to specific outcomes
in a range of contexts over a period of time.
The outcomes have been listed using the coding devised by the Board
of Studies. The letters indicate a content strand and the numbers
indicate a stage and specific outcome e.g.: R S3.5 refers to the
outcome for Reading Stage Three, number five.
The Program
Session
A box entitled “Session” is included on every page.
It is intended that the teacher record the number of sessions needed
to complete the set tasks. The programs have been written based
on the following suggested timetabling format:
|
English: |
Early Stage One and Stage One programs are based on five
sessions per week. Stage Two and Stage Three programs are
based on four sessions per week.
A session is approximately 1hour 45mins.
|
|
Maths:
|
Each mini-program consists of four sessions. It is intended
that you select 10 mini units across the different content
areas, thus creating a term's program (i.e. 40 maths sessions
per term).
A session is approximately 1 hour.
|
|
Science &Technology:
|
A session of approximately 1hour.
|
|
HSIE:
|
A session of approximately 1hour.
|
|
P.D, Health and P.E.
|
A session of approximately 1 hour.
|
Outcomes and Indicators
Outcomes and indicators specific to the task have been listed. These
have been lined up where possible to show the outcome and its corresponding
indicators.
Modelling
The modelling section provides specific instructions to the teacher
on how to implement the learning experience.
Learning experience
The learning experience briefly describes the set task. In the Mathematics
programs, the tasks listed in the Learning Experiences column are
open-ended starting points only and are not necessarily in order.
The teacher must establish each student's task through assessment
and questioning.
Each Learning Experience column contains at least two tasks. Associated
questions are there to assist the teacher in directing the student's
learning. It is intended that these questions be asked at different
stages of the learning experience to extend the students,
thinking.
Assessment & Resources
Possible assessment strategies have been included on this page.
They are specific to the content area.
Resources referred to in the unit have been listed on this page.
Web links, which may provide additional resource material for both
teachers and students, have also been included.
It is intended that the teachers use the evaluation section on
the completion of the unit.
An appendix includes any relevant student work sheets for use within
the implementation of the program.
