Speak to usIn this unit the students will investigate the religious beliefs that are held within the wider community. The students will use telephone books and street directories etc to identify evidence of the different types of religious beliefs held within the community. They will identify a number of people and will ask them about their religious beliefs and will graph the results. They will identify where the major religions have their origins and discuss the relationship between someone’s religion and their country of origin. The students will then look at Aboriginal dreaming stories and discuss how they give meaning to Aboriginal people’s spiritual and physical being. The students will then work together in a group to research aspects of a chosen religion such as the fundamental belief of the religion, symbols associated with the religion, places where they worship and important celebrations. Finally the students will be involved in doing some role-plays to develop an understanding of the importance of religious tolerance.
