In this unit, the students will listen and respond to stories written by Mem Fox. They will complete a variety of reading, writing and talking and listening tasks based on the Mem Fox stories, “Possum Magic”, “Wombat Divine” “Boo to a Goose” “Zoo Looking” and “Harriet, You’ll Drive Me Wild!” The students will complete matching activities, text reconstructions and simple cloze passages. They will make a sandwich and lamingtons and contribute to the joint construction of recipes. The students will record a personal response to a story and will contribute to a class book based on a Mem Fox text. They will also retell an event from a story. The students will respond to the Mem Fox stories in the Talking and Listening component of the unit. They will hot seat a character, give a simple oral procedure, add actions and movement to a story, retell a favourite part and participate in a ‘description’ game.
