Patterns and Algebra 1.1

In this unit the students will investigate patterns and algebra. The students will create a pattern of 2 and then 5 and 10. They will describe and record their pattern and put number to the patterns. They will count forwards and backwards by twos, fives and tens. The students will then represent their patterns on a hundreds number chart and investigate the patterns in counting by twos, fives and tens. The students will then investigate the patterns which result when continually adding a given number e.g. 2 on a calculator. They will plot these numbers on a number line and describe the patterns they see and then use the number line to help them predict the next term.
