Speak to usIn this unit, the students will explore their local community. They will define the term ‘community’ and recognise where communities are located in Australia. The students will go for a walk around their local community and create a model, including the significant built and natural features. They will listen to an older member of the community talk about how the community has changed over time. They will recognise ways that this has impacted on the people and environment in the local area. The students will identify the facilities within their community and suggest ways that their community would be different without them. They will explore a service provided by the community and create a flow chart to show how this service is supplied. The students will become familiar with their local council. They will use local newspapers to identify community issues. They will participate in a mock council meeting in which they present a community issue.
