Speak to usIn this unit, the students will explore issues related to “Our Australian Identity”. The students will reflect upon what it means to be an Australian. They will identify the different countries from which Australians come and will create a timeline which reflects the patterns of immigration to Australia. The students will examine reasons why people immigrate to Australia and will conduct an interview to gain information about people’s experiences of immigrating. The students will identify positive aspects of living in a multicultural nation and will create a presentation showing our cultural diversity. The students will also identify negative aspects of living in a multicultural nation and will discuss examples of discrimination and racism reported in newspaper articles. They will investigate and then create a presentation highlighting aspects of “Our Australian Identity”. Finally the students will examine other peoples’ concept of “Our Australian identity” and will then choose and describe a painting, piece of artwork, music, song or poem which they think best reflects our Australian identify.
