Speak to usIn this unit, the students will investigate both natural and built features and places of the local environment. They will compare two features/ places of the local community and identify one as natural and the other as a built. The students will identify different features or places such as the park, pool and shopping centre and will describe the types of things which may be seen there. They will walk around the local environment to observe these features/ places and will then create a small 3-dimensional model of the feature/ place. They will work together to create a large map of the local area on which they will place their models. The students will then investigate the ways that people in the local community use these features or places and will record their findings in the form of a graph. The students will finally discuss the need to care for the features/ places of the environment and will listen to a guest speaker such as a council worker, talk about the things that they do in their job. They will then use this information to create a profile for this worker.
