Speak to usIn this unit, the students will investigate the school and home environment and recognise ways that they can care for it. The unit will explore the concepts of reducing, reusing and recycling. The children will explore and describe what makes up their school environment. They will identify ways that they already care for the school and they will also identify ways that they are damaging the environment. The students will investigate the types of rubbish found on the playground and devise a way of testing which rubbish is biodegradable. They will then discuss ways that they can reduce waste and packaging at home and at school. They will write a letter to their parents or caregivers suggesting how they can reduce rubbish at home. The students will design a product that has been made from at least one item of ‘rubbish’. They will also explore some of the processes involved in recycling materials.
