In this unit, the students will investigate the structure of descriptions and procedures through a study on homes. In the Reading component of the unit, they will read a variety of descriptions of homes and use these to create a word bank and explore noun groups. They will match homes to potential buyers, and animals to their animal homes. They will complete a cloze passage and text reconstruction. The students will read procedures on how to create a birdhouse and a fish tank diorama. In the Writing component, they will be involved in the joint construction of the text types and they will develop their skills in writing the text types independently and editing their own writing. In Talking and Listening, the students will orally describe the school building and participate in games in which they describe different types of houses. They will give and follow instructions on how to draw and make a house. They will also present an oral procedure on how to make a bird house.
