Speak to usIn this unit, the students will identify Australian everyday global connections and mark these on a map. They will discuss terms related to trade such as ”imports” and “exports”. The students will be allocated a category such as electrical goods and they will identify the origins of different products in this category. They will then make generalisations about Australia’s imports based on their findings. The students will be given a number of different brands of the same food type. They will investigate the origins and then compare them. They will create a poster identifying the benefits of buying Australian made. The students will then be involved in researching and presenting information about a particular Australian export such as cotton or wool etc. The students will also identify successful Australian companies such as Quiksilver. They will investigate the company and its exports and discuss how they create global links based on trade. Finally the students will reflect on how their lives may be different if Australia wasn’t globally connected by trade.
