In this unit, the students will be introduced to three famous artists. They are Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso. The students will become familiar with basic biographical details about these artists. They will view examples of their work using posters, books and web sites. They will explore the different techniques used by these artists. They will create their own artworks based on these techniques. The students will create a painting of a water reflection and a garden using dabbing techniques similar to the style used by Monet. They will create a still life of a vase of sunflowers and a self-portrait after viewing images created by Van Gogh. The students will explore the techniques used by Picasso and they will respond to these by creating a picture of an object using geometric shapes. They will also use different shades of blue paint to create an image of a sad person.
