In this mini unit, the students will listen and respond to the story “Esio Trot” by Roald Dahl. They will complete Reading, Writing and Talking and Listening tasks based on the text. Some of the reading tasks include illustrating and describing the main characters in the story, identifying true and false statements, a cloze passage and text reconstruction, sequencing of events and a story map. The students will also create a new contraption to pick up Alfie. In writing, the students will jointly construct and independently write procedures and a new blurb for the story. In Talking and Listening, they will present a new verse to make Alfie grow bigger. They will hot seat Mr Hoppy and role-play asking Mrs Silver to tea. The students will also use information they have gathered to role-play introducing Roald Dahl to a meeting of authors.
