Speak to usIn this unit of work, the students will explore how communication technology can be adapted to service people with disabilities. The students will identify how they communicate with others and access information from their environment. They will simulate a disability and discuss the implications of this disability on the way in which people communicate. The students will listen to a guest speaker, or visit a special school, in order to gain information about devices which are used to assist people with disabilities to communicate. They will research devices used to assist people with a specific disability. The students will watch a DVD (available online) about the ways in which adaptive technology assists people with disabilities to use computers. The students will then use all of this information to design and make a device to assist a person with a specific need to communicate or access information.
