This unit of work is based on the theme, Christmas in Australia and in other lands. In the reading component of the unit, the students will read texts related to how Christmas is celebrated in Australia and in other countries. They will create a class word bank of terms related to Christmas; reconstruct text and research information about Christmas in a country of their choice. The students will also read passages about Christmas and compare the ways in which Christmas is celebrated. In the writing component, the students will write an email to a student in a different country, recounting a Christmas experience in Australia. They will jointly construct and then independently write an information report about Christmas in another country. In the talking and listening component, the students will interview a person about Christmas in the past and then give an oral recount. They will participate in a dictagloss activity and give an oral information report.
