Building Energy Efficient Homes
In this unit, the students will investigate energy efficient homes. They will identify sources of energy and sort energy into renewable and non renewable sources. They will identify ways we use energy in the home and calculate the average cost of running standard household appliances. They will investigate the Greenhouse Effect and identify ways in which Australian households can reduce their energy consumption and therefore reduce the emission of Greenhouse gases. The students will research ways in which houses can be built so that they are energy efficient. They will participate in an online game in which they design an energy efficient home. The students will then work in groups to design an “Energy Smart” home. They will present their designs to the class.
