Speak to usIn this unit, the students will listen to picture books related to the sea. They will complete reading tasks that will develop their reading skills and comprehension, as well as fostering a love of books. They will use these texts as the basis for their writing tasks. They will focus on the structure of recounts and narratives and be involved in the joint construction and independent construction of these text types. The students will participate in talking and listening tasks based on the sea theme. These tasks will reinforce their understanding of recounts and narratives and will also encourage them to use adjectives. Texts used include “Greetings from Sandy Beach”, by Bob Graham, “Samantha Seagull’s Sandals”, by Gordon Winch, “The Great White Man-Eating Shark” by Margaret Mahy, “Not a Nibble” by Elizabeth Honey and “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Rescue” by R Armitage
