In this unit, the students will investigate the concept of area. The students will recognise the need for units such as the square kilometre and the hectare when calculating larger areas. They will calculate the area of local councils within a large city, and record these in square kilometres. They will become familiar with the hectare as a unit and calculate the area of parks, reserves and larger properties.
