Area 1.5
In this unit the students will investigate the concept of area. The students will investigate the area of a postcard or envelope. They will find other objects that have the same surface area, a smaller surface area and larger surface area. The students will then order the objects and calculate their area using informal units. The students will also select three different sized boxes and investigate how much paper would be needed to wrap each of the boxes. They will calculate the size of the paper needed using informal units.
