Speak to usIn this unit, the students will explore the Antarctic. They will locate Antarctica on a world map and describe its physical features. They will create a timeline of explorers who have investigated the region. They will identify the reasons why people are interested in the Antarctic and they will research a special activity that has, or continues to take place on this continent. The students will argue why specific activities should continue in Antarctica. They will identify environmental issues that affect the Antarctic and will research one of these issues. They will create a magazine advertisement to describe the issue and tell people how we can preserve the Antarctic environment. The students will become familiar with documents such as The Antarctic Treaty, which regulate activity in the Antarctic.
